Karn Sharma explains how Karun Nair’s wicket changed the game for Mumbai Indians vs Delhi Capitals in IPL 2025 and emphasizes dew’s role.
In a thrilling IPL 2025 encounter between Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals, leg-spinner Karn Sharma played a pivotal role in turning the game around for his side. After the match, Karn opened up about the key moment when Karun Nair’s dismissal completely broke the flow of Delhi’s chase.
In a conversation with the media, Karn disclosed that when he broke through, Delhi Capitals were coasting along comfortably, having a healthy scoring rate of 10 to 11 runs an over. His role as a middle-overs bowler was to unsettle their rhythm by taking wickets, and that is precisely what he accomplished.
Emphasizing the importance of the wicket of Karun Nair, Karn Sharma opined that after Nair was gotten out, the momentum of Delhi was broken, which paved the way for Mumbai to pick two to three successive wickets, which eventually transformed the game.
But only sharp bowling wasn’t responsible for Mumbai Indians’ success. The team also wisely made use of the new IPL regulation, whereby in the event of too much dew, a ball change is permitted. It was also a memorable moment for Karn as this was his first game of the IPL 2025 season. Brought in as an Impact Player in the second innings, the onus was on him, but Karn didn’t disappoint with his clever bowling.
Ex-Indian leg-spinner Piyush Chawla also noted the strategic move behind Mumbai Indians’ decision to pick Karn Sharma instead of Ashwani Kumar. As per Chawla, MI probably saw how Delhi spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Vipraj Nigam did in the first innings, which led them to decide to introduce Karn for the second half.
Chawla appreciated Karn’s composure under pressure, noting that entering the playing XI after five or six games and stepping up in such a pressure-cooker situation immediately is never simple, but Karn made it look like a veteran.
